ok its not as configurable as a NAS but it does pretty much the same job,and since most of us have at least one external hard drive then this shouldnt cost you a pennyĮven if you dont have a external hard drive you can buy a enclosure for under £12 ( under £5 for a 2.5" laptop drive enclosure ) ,infact a 2.5" enclosure is better as its usb powered and will still work as well as a large 3.5" desktop hard driveġ) make sure your hard drive is formatted using NTFS. So it makes sense to save money and use your external hard drive ( or even a large capacity flash drive ) as a NAS. however all current "talktalk" wireless routers ( inc the super router ) have a built in usb3.0 port which supports all usb devices such as printers and more importantly usb mass storage devices ( inc external hard drives and usb flash drives ) However NAS,s can be expensive with the cheapest costing around £65.

To ensure all data is backed up to the NAS a program such as acronis true image can be used, however windows built in back up tool can do the same job as long as its configured to use the NAS as the target drive and not only does this save your pc,s/laptops internal storage it allows one computer to access data that was originally on another computer this works via your wireless router and allows everyone on the home network to back up or move data to a centralized location. Now the usual option for large scale storage is NAS or network storage devices. Todays computers use a massive amount of storage and only 10 years ago a 120gb hard drive was seen as massive, however many people encounter problems storing all the photos, video,s,music and general data they save on a daily basis
